Bennett Renault, the family-run dealership on Barrack Road in Leeds, ran a successful motorsport themed event on Friday last week (23rd November). The Renault and Dacia specialists are sponsors of Max Coates, a UK, and World Renault Clio Cup Racing driver from North Yorkshire who brought along his 2018 race car and bespoke simulator for the event.
In the afternoon over 30 students from Holy Rosary and St Anne’s Catholic Primary school visited the dealership at 41 Barrack Road to take part in an insightful, entertaining and engaging afternoon on the subject of road safety. The afternoon started with a presentation by Max about his racing and the safety elements of his racing kit and car.
The children lapped it up, asking multiple questions and trying on the race gear including suit and helmet themselves. Following this, the children were split into groups to investigate his racing car further, as well as trying a 7-second extraction test from the race car. The groups were also given a lesson in road safety from Andrew Lotherington, Service and After-sales Manager at Bennett Renault with a safety feature tour and the chance to scribble racing and car safety related imagery and messages on a new Renault Clio.
Following the children’s departure, the dealership began an evening event celebrating Max’s success this year including 4 race wins in the UK series and 3rd place overall, a win in the Central European Championship and 2nd place in the Clio Cup World Finale at Paul Ricard in the South of France. Over 40 people visited the dealership to meet Max, drive his racing simulator and have a look at the car and trophies from the 2018 season.
A competition was also running on the simulator using the Clio Cup race car around the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. Max had claimed pole position there earlier this year with a time of 51.901. The top four times of the night all beat this but Max bettered his own lap time with a 51.5 second lap. Munir Choudhry took home a signed picture of the race car for topping the time sheets followed home by Michael Kidson and Karl Green who both received a Renault goody back of prizes.
